Kickboxing Barcelona: Openness of training for parents.
An acquaintance told me that his child, who is 4 years old, is practicing sambo. I myself have been practicing sambo for many years, and I was curious about what the kid had learned. I asked him a question: what techniques can he do? The child’s answer surprised me – he knows nothing.
I asked the father: is he present at the trainings? The father answered – the trainings are held behind closed doors, parents have no opportunity to observe the training. For me the situation became clear.
I am a master and I hold my trainings open and available to parents. I always ask parents to be present at the workouts so they can see their children’s successes and see their progress. This creates an atmosphere of trust and motivation for both the children and the parents
At the same time there is a practice in some clubs to close the gym from parents. This is an attempt to hide the poor quality of teaching. I would never send my child to a sports club where parents cannot watch the training, monitor safety and keep track of their child’s progress.
Openness in training is more than just transparency of the process. It is a way to build trust between coach, child and parents. Parents see not only the achievements, but also the training process itself, which motivates children to strive for better results. In addition, the presence of parents at training sessions unites the family in a common cause and creates an atmosphere of support and participation.
